Epidural Anesthesia for Femur Operation in Geriatrics

Abstract
30 patients who were 60 to 82 years of age received lumber epidural anesthesia for femur operation. Epidural punture was performed with the patient in the lateral decubitus position via the midline approach at the L2~3 or L3~4 interspace. Injection of 0.5% bupivacaine or 1.5, lidocaine with 1 : 200, 000 epinephrine was made at a rate of 1 ml/sec through Tuohy epidural needle or epidural catheter.
The results were as follows :
1) Anesthetic time was ranging from 130 to 300 minutes (mean 180¡¾5) and operation time, from 105 to -230 minutes (mean 140¡¾7).
2) Arterial pressure decreased from 121¡¾5.4/76¡¾2.9 mmHg before anesthesia to 105¡¾4.0/ 69¡¾2.6 mmHg after anesthesia.
3) Pulse rate did not change significantly.
4) Respiratory depression was not remarkable.
5) Neural block was satisfactory in 17 cases, adequate in 10 cases and inadequate in 3 cases. 6) All patients were received lumber epidural anesthesia without harmful squeal and each .operative procedure performed safely.
